Men's T&F Impresses at Collegeville Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Octavious Carter came within a whisker of breaking a program record as the Ursinus College men's track and field team placed third with an impressive all-around performance at the annual Collegeville Classic on Saturday.

Carter's 7.05-second mark in the 60-meter dash finals was just a hundredth of a second off the indoor record held by Jequan Mitchell, and good enough for a third-place overall finish. The speedster also took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.31.

Zach Crebbin picked up a victory in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 2 inches on his first attempt to grab a tiebreaker over an athlete from Rider.

Griffin McMann extended his Centennial Conference-leading shot put tally to 48-8.75, a personal best by a few inches and enough to land him in third individually.

Payton Stanziani blazed his way to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a clocking of 52.21 seconds, moving all the way up to second in the conference. Andre Kelly was hot on his heels, checking in at 52.32 to take over third on the CC performance list.

Daniel Maloney elevated to third in the Centennial with a big PR in the 60-meter hurdles (8.83), where he was sixth.

Austin Bittenbender moved to sixth in the CC with a 41-7.25 in the triple jump, while Ken Sprankle shattered his previous personal best with an 11-11.75 in the pole vault; Sprankle placed fourth overall and jumped into the top-10 in the conference.

Ed Martinez led a caravan of Bears in the 800, placing seventh with a 2:04.58. Dylan Simms (2:05.06) and Marcos Maciel (2:05.69) each secured a new personal best.

Martinez joined Kelly, Noah Kilday, and Colin McCarty to place fifth in the distance medley relay at 11:35.49.

The Bears head to the Main Line for the Haverford Invitational on January 30.
