Men's T&F Sixth After Day 1 at CC Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The 4x200-meter relay team captured a silver medal as the Ursinus College men's track and field team opened the Centennial Conference indoor championships on Saturday.

Senior Jequan Mitchell teamed with sophomores Codi Yhap, Austin Bittenbender, and Andre Kelly to challenge Johns Hopkins step for step in the sprint relay, clocking in just 0.30 seconds off the gold-medal pace with a 1:32.76. The quartet nearly eclipsed the program mark of 1:32.33, which has stood since 2007.

The Bears ended the day in sixth place with 14 team points. Johns Hopkins is well on its way to another title with 50 points, and Haverford is second at 40. Dickinson (33) is third, followed by Swarthmore (28), Muhlenberg (16), Ursinus, and Gettysburg (8), McDaniel (3), and Franklin & Marshall (2).

Yhap finished sixth with a 40-2.25 in the triple jump.

Sophomore John Haase, senior Mitchell Kelly, freshman Noah Kilday, and sophomore James McDaid placed sixth in distance medley at 10:48.85.

Senior Connor Lent competed in four of the heptathlon events, finishing sixth of eight in the shot put (31-3.75).

Sunday's action gets underway at 11:30 a.m. inside the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
