Rountree named Athlete of the Meet as Bears finish second at Centennial Track Championships

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Ursinus College sophomore track and field athlete Chris Rountree (Lawnside, N.J./Haddon Heights) was named as the Male Athlete of the Meet on Saturday afternoon at the 2011 Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Haverford College. The Bears finished the day second overall with a total team score of 94.50.

Rountree won the triple jump at 14.11 meters (46 feet, 3.5 inches) and the 55 dash (6.61), while finishing second in the 55 hurdles (7.82), and eighth in the 200 meter dash at 23.79.

Ursinus crowned two other champions as junior Andrew Carr (Spring City, Pa./Phoenixville) won the shot put with a throw of 14.82 meters (48 feet, 7.5 inches) and freshman Dean Scott (North Berwick, Maine/Noble) won the high jump at 1.83 meters (6 feet).

Ursinus was extremely strong in the sprint events, as sophomore Jordan Grannum (New Rochelle, N.Y./Brunswick School (Conn.) finished second in the 200 meter dash (23.02), and the 55 dash with a time of 6.62. In the 55, senior Charles Prete (Herndon, Va./Kellum) was seventh at 6.75.

In the 400, senior Brendan Gifford (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) was eighth with a time of 52.82 and eighth in the 800 with a time of 1:59.99.

In the jumps, Prete was fourth in the long jump at 6.18 meters (20 feet, 3.5 inches) and also took fourth in the high jump at 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches).

In the relay events, the team of Rountree, Grannum, freshman Ian Wiggins (Princeton, N.J./The George School) and junior Lance Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central) were third in the 4x2 relay with a time of 1:33.10, while the team of senior Justin Garavel (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow), sophomore Tyler Gofus (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School), junior Ben Mosher (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and junior Nick Pane (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) were seventh in the DMR with a time of 11:05.69.

Pane, freshman Jatin Narang (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg), Gofus and Garavel were seventh in the 4x8 relay at 8:34.69.

The team of Garavel, Gifford, Jones and Grannum finished the day by finishing third in the 4x4 relay at 3:28.96.
