Sophomores Win at First Doubles

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Mason Groff and Matt Fontanese notched a strong win at number one doubles in the Ursinus College men's tennis team's 8-1 Centennial Conference loss to Dickinson on Saturday.

The sophomore pairing shut out Justin Pace and Andrew Lai in a tiebreaker on the top doubles court, securing their second conference win of the year with an 8-7 (0) nail-biter. Groff and Fontanese are now 8-3 overall, including a 2-2 mark in CC play.

The Red Devils (6-8, 3-2) did not drop a set on the other eight courts in continuing their push for a spot in the league playoffs. Groff, junior Connor DeFaber-Schumacher, and sophomore Kyle Bookman all took a set to 6-4, but that was close as any Ursinus single player got.

The Bears head to Haverford for another CC match on Tuesday.
