Fontanese Fights Hard At Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. – Matt Fontanese put up a strong battle on the singles courts in the Ursinus College men's tennis team's 9-0 loss to No. 21 Johns Hopkins.

The sophomore engaged Matt Lurie in a tight battle before succumbing to a 6-4, 7-5 decision at number three singles. Fontanese posted the two closest sets of the day for the Bears (3-6, 0-2), who were competing with only five players.

Fontanese also provided a close match in doubles, teaming with classmate Mason Groff to push the Blue Jays' top pairing to an 8-5 final.

Ursinus resumes Centennial Conference play at home against Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday.
