Men's Tennis Trio Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – Three members of the Ursinus College men's tennis team received Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete recognition.

Rising senior Jake Lachowicz joined rising sophomores Matt Fontanese and Mason Groff in qualifying for the honor, awarded to varsity letter winners who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Lachowicz saw semi-regular action at the back end of the Bears' lineup, going 5-7 in singles play and 3-5 in doubles. He is an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the second time in his career and is also a two-time member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Fontanese cracked the starting ladder immediately and turned in a solid rookie campaign, finishing 8-8 in singles and 9-8 in doubles.

Groff made his presence felt right away, playing number two singles and number two doubles from day one. The freshman was an even 8-8 in individual action but was particularly impressive on the doubles court, where he finished 15-3 to fall just one win shy of the single-season school record.
