Oberholtzer, Vecchio Return to All-CC Team

2018 All-CC Men's Tennis

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus College men's tennis standouts Max Oberholtzer and Paul Vecchio continued to write their names all over the program record book with another selection to the All-Centennial Conference roster.

Oberholtzer was named to the first team in singles, while he and Vecchio received second team recognition in doubles.

Oberholtzer departs Ursinus as the most decorated player in program history after earning his third all-conference laurel in both singles and doubles; he was already the only Bear ever to be named All-CC more than once in both singles and doubles. The senior was a first team singles honoree as a sophomore and garnered second team status as a junior.

Oberholtzer finished the 2017-18 campaign with a 10-6 record in dual matches at number one singles, including a 4-4 mark in conference play. He became the first in school history to collect a regional ranking, checking in at No. 22 in the April 12th edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South poll. Oberholtzer ranks third all-time in overall wins (81) and fourth in singles wins (43).

The Bears' top tandem for the last three years, Oberholtzer and Vecchio are represented on the All-CC squad for the third consecutive season after compiling an 11-5 record in dual matches. A second team doubles choice two years ago and an honorable mention recipient last season, the Bears' number one duo finished 5-4 in CC competition, including taking Haverford's first-team honorees Josh Moskovitz and David Kong to a tiebreaker.

Through his first three seasons, Vecchio stands sixth in program history with 67 career victories. He is seventh in doubles wins (36) and eighth in singles wins (31).

Additionally, senior Peter Shields represented the Bears on the All-Sportsmanship Team. The coach of each CC member institution was permitted to nominate one student-athlete who exemplifies the best in sportsmanship for the All-Sportsmanship Team. Shields and freshman Mason Groff posted one of the best doubles seasons in UC history, going 12-2 overall and 4-1 in the CC at number two.

Shields ended his career fifth in both total wins (70) and doubles victories (40).
