Men's Tennis Falls at Hopkins in CC Finale

BALTIMORE, Md. – Ursinus played some competitive matches in Saturday's Centennial Conference men's tennis match at No. 23 Johns Hopkins, but the visitors were unable to prevent the Blue Jays from scoring a 9-0 sweep.

Ursinus dropped to 10-7 overall and 4-5 in the CC, while Hopkins improved to 12-3 and 7-0 in conference matches.

Senior Max Oberholtzer and junior Paul Vecchio lost 8-4 at number one doubles to Vik Vasan and Vishnu Joshi, while freshman Mason Groff and senior Peter Shields fell by the same tally to Jack Hogan and Colin Muraika at number one. It was the first dual loss of the season for Groff and Shields, who came in with an unblemished 10-0 record.

Sophomore Connor DeFaber-Schumacher was close at number four singles, but came up just short in an 8-6 final opposite Muraika.

Groff lost 6-4, 6-2 to Joe Cartledge at number one, and freshman Matt Fontanese was defeated 6-4, 6-1 at number six.

The Bears head to Wilkes for a non-conference match on Monday before closing the season at Cabrini on Wednesday.
