Men's Tennis Doubles Up Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Max Oberholtzer, Paul Vecchio, and Matt Fontanese were all double winners as Ursinus downed Gettysburg, 6-3, in Centennial Conference men's tennis action Saturday.

Oberholtzer and Vecchio teamed up for an 8-0 shutout at first doubles as the Bears (7-4, 1-2) secured their first conference victory of the season.

After the Bullets (2-1, 0-1) equalized with an 8-6 win at second doubles, Fontanese and junior Jake Lachowicz outlasted Andrew Cohen and Jacob Meehan, 8-6, at number three to lift Ursinus to a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Oberholtzer was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Christian Deschapelles at number one singles, logging his 40th career singles victory to become the fourth player in program history to achieve that milestone.

Vecchio completed his sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 rout against Kevin Maier at number three for his 60th career victory, moving him into a tie for ninth in school history.

Fontanese topped Henry Pletcher, 6-2, 6-3, at number five singles, and sophomore Connor DeFaber-Schumacher cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win opposite Tommy Gilio at number four.

The men's tennis team travels to Muhlenberg for a CC tilt on Tuesday.
