The Ursinus Bears men's tennis team opened the fall portion of their schedule this weekend, sending seven players to the ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. 

Senior Evan Lord led the Bears with four wins over the weekend.  He notched three wins in singles while playing in the B2 draw, and also teamed with sophomore Alex Elbogen to grab a win in the Championship Doubles bracket.

In singles, Lord won three times to make it to the B2 title match against Will Bannister of Washington & Lee.  After a tremendous two and a half hour match, Lord had to retire due to injury late in the third set.  Bannister took the title with a 2-6, 7-6 (5), 5-4 (retired) victory. 

In doubles, Lord and Elbogen became the first Ursinus doubles team to ever win a match in the main draw of the Championship Doubles event, defeating Connor Moncure and Taylor Napier of Ferrum College 8-3 in their first round match.  In the second round, they were defeated 8-1 by the eventual champions, Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh of Johns Hopkins.

Senior Evan Stutchin was the lone entrant for the Bears in the Championship Singles event.  Stutchin lost in the first round to the #9 seed Luis Acaba of Haverford, 6-4, 6-2.  Stutchin then fell in the consolations to Brandon Griffin of Mary Washington, 8-6. 

Senior Matt Hope played in the B2 draw, and lost a tight 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 decision to Scott Buie of Mary Washington in the opening round.  Hope dropped an 8-3 decision to Arttu Fiva from Christopher Newport.

Seniors Logan Metcalf-Kelly and Dylan Marsh teamed up to play in the B1 doubles draw.  The duo found success with an 8-1 win over a team from Grove City College before losing 8-1 in the second round to Christopher Newport. 

In singles, both Metcalf-Kelly and Marsh competed in the B3 draw.  Marsh lost his opening round match to J.B. Weaver of Hampden-Sydney, before falling in the consolations to Johnny Xue of Penn State-Harrisburg.  Metcalf-Kelly beat Connor Moncure of Ferrum in the first round before dropping a close 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 match to Justin Wisniewski of Juniata.

Finally, sophomore Tyler Arsenault competed in the B1 singles draw.  In the first round, he downed Robert Eckstein of Washington & Lee 7-5, 6-4.  He was then knocked out in the second round by Kunal Wadwani of Carnegie Mellon University, 6-1, 6-2. 

The Bears return to the courts this weekend at home to complete the fall portion of their schedule.  They will play a double header, hosting Rutgers-Camden at 10 am and York College at 2:30 pm at the Ace Bailey courts.
