COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Four members of the Ursinus College men's swimming team grabbed individual victories in the Bears' 159-103 setback to Swarthmore in Saturday's home opener.
Freshmen Ryan Carkhuff and Daniel Mueser joined sophomore Michael Prior and junior Jacob Menzer in hitting the podium for Ursinus (2-1, 1-1).
Menzer split a pair of head-to-head battles with younger brother Alec, a sophomore for the Garnet. The younger Menzer got the best of the opening salvo, as Jacob touched the wall in second with a 10:12.33 in the 1000 free.
Carkhuff was first to touch the wall in the 50 free, edging out Swarthmore's Alec Lawless and Mueser with a mark of 21.85. The rookie's time is good for seventh in the Centennial Conference this season.
Prior dominated the 200 back two races later, finishing more than three seconds clear of the runner-up swimmer with a conference-best 1:55.55.
The second Menzer melee went the way of the Bears' star, as Jacob cleared Alec by 2.50 seconds with a clocking of 4:49.96, currently good for second in the CC.
Mueser followed with a CC-best 52.49 in the 100 fly.
Junior Jared Krawetz finished second in the 200 free (1:47.72) for the Bears. Senior James Callaghan took second in the 200 fly (2:01.89), while classmate Maxwell Coulter placed runner-up in the 100 breast (1:01.89) and 200 breast (2:19.56).
The Bears remain at home to take on McDaniel next Saturday.
