Solid Start for Men's Swimming at CC Championship

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team narrowly missed school records in both relays as the Bears put up a strong effort on the opening night of the Centennial Conference Championship.

Ursinus picked up a medal and finished the first session tied for third with 82 points. Gettysburg leads the team standings with 104 points, with Franklin & Marshall in second with 90 and Washington College tied for third with the Bears.

Freshman Michael Prior, junior Maxwell Coulter, senior Colin McNamara, and junior Travis Venables placed fourth in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 1:35.39 was just off the program record of 1:35.04 established at last year's CC meet.

Sophomore Jacob Menzer joined classmate Jared Krawetz, junior Daniel Becker, and sophomore Casey Lear to claim bronze in the 800 free relay. The group touched the wall in 6:52.72, just .26 seconds off the school-record pace from last season's conference championship.

Prior teamed with senior Christopher Barthold and juniors Kevin Gill and James Callaghan for a third-place showing in the B final (7:04.84).

The CC championship resumes Friday morning with prelims in the 500 free, 200 IM, and 50 free. The evening session will feature the finals of these three events in addition to the 200 free relay.
