WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team concluded its stay at West Chester's Golden Rams Classic with a solid outing that left many Bears in stronger positions within the Centennial Conference in a variety of events.
Freshman Michael Prior, sophomore Maxwell Coulter, senior Colin McNamara, and junior Travis Venables clocked in at 1:37.98 in the 200 medley relay, moving to fourth in the conference.
Junior James Callaghan marked a season best 4:22.37 in the 400 IM, good for sixth in the CC, and classmate Kevin Gill's 4:27.03 elevated him into the top ten.
McNamara registered a 52.66 in the 100 fly, vaulting him up to fourth in the conference.
Sophomore Jacob Menzer logged his best time of the year in the 200 free, edging younger brother Alec (Swarthmore) by .22 seconds with a 1:43.26 that stands second in the CC. Classmate Casey Lear's 1:45.40 ranks ninth.
Coulter led the way for the Bears in the 100 breast, placing sixth overall with a time of 1:00.59.
Prior moved to fourth in the CC with a 53.21 in the 100 breast, good for fourth overall in the event.
Menzer, sophomore Jared Krawetz, junior Daniel Becker, and Lear clocked a 7:03.18 to tie for third place in the 800 free relay with a mark that now stands second in the CC for the season.
Menzer placed second overall in the 1650 free with a conference-best 16:24.39.
Prior's collegiate-best 1:55.26, enough to land in fourth overall, is now the third-best time in the CC in the 200 back.
Coulter was Ursinus' top performer in the 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:15.34 to place fifth with the conference's ninth-best time. Junior Reid Luksic was close behind at 2:16.78.
McNamara moved all the way up to third in the CC with a time of 1:55.46 in the 200 fly, where junior Johnathan Myers (1:58.07, 6th) and Callaghan (1:59.20, 8th), also managed top-10 CC times.
Menzer, Krawetz, Venablesm and Lear were second in the 400 free relay at 3:10.35, good for fourth in the conference.
