Men's Swimming fourth after day one of Centennial Championships

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team finished day one of the 2012 Centennial Conference Championships with a total of 146 points in fourth place.

In the opening 200 free relay, the team of David Yazbeck, John Wieczorek, Philip Quick and Ben Jumper finished fourth with a time of 1:26.78. The team of Kevin Tallon, Chris Doyle, Ryan Furlong and Joe Gershun finished 12th with a time of 1:29.88.

In the 500 free, Chris Smith finished in fourth overall with a time of 4:44.05, with David Wagner finishing 10th at 4:48.97 and sophomore Alexander Pandelidis finishing 13th with a time of 4:50.76.

In the 200 IM, Jacob Robinson was fourth overall with a time of 1:57.51, with Quick finishing 13th with a time of 2:01.13.

The 50 free saw Yazbeck finish seventh overall with a time of 21.46, with Wieczorek finishing 13th overall at 21.97.

In the closing 400 medley relay, Robinson, Yazbeck, Smith and Wieczorek were third overall with a time of 3:29.88.

The three-day championship resumes Saturday morning with prelims.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus College will be well represented in Friday nights Centennial Conference finals after the early morning preliminaries at Gettysburg College.

Here's a quick recap:

Women:

Both sophomore Bryn O'Neill and Molly Serfass will compete in the 500 free finals. O'Neill will be in the A final with a time of 5:19.43, which was seventh best overall. Serfass is in the B finals with a time of 5:19.82.

Sophomore Malena Lair Ferrari took third in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:11.87 and will race in the A finals.

In the 50 free, Ursinus will have three people involved as freshman Katie Yeity finished her prelim with a time of 24.80, which tied for second and put her in the A finals. Freshman Anne Ludwig and Amanda Lucock both advanced to the B finals with times of 25.19 and 25.55 respectively.

Men:

A total of five swimmers will face in the 500 free finals Friday night, with junior Scott Paine, senior Chris Smith and freshman Joe Gershun going to the A finals with times of 4:43.22, 4:44.84 and 4:48.02 respectively.  Paine was third overall, with Smith fifth and Gershun seventh.

Sophomore Alexander Pandelidis and junior David Wagner will race in the B finals, as Pandelidis turned in a 4:50.52 for tenth and Wagner was 11th with a time of 4:50.84.

In the 200 IM, freshman Jacob Robinson set a new school record with a time of 1:59.05 in eighth in the A finals, with junior Philip Quick also besting the school record with a time of 1:59.85 in ninth place. Quick will race in the B finals.

Junior David Yazbeck set a school mark in the 50 free with a time of 21.49, putting him sixth and in the A finals. Sophomore John Wieczorek was 11th overall with a time of 21.82 and will be in the B finals.
