COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In a meet that came down to the final
relay, the Ursinus College swim team split a dual meet with
Dickinson on a snowy Saturday afternoon.
The women (6-1, 3-1 Centennial) defeated the Red Devils (2-2, 1-1
Centennial) by a 110-95 score, while the men (4-3, 1-3 Centennial)
lost to Dickinson (1-2, 1-0 Centennial) by a carbon copy 110-95
count.
The men started off with a second place finish in the 200-medley
relay as freshman David Wagner (Whitehall,
Pa./Whitehall), freshman Phillip Quick (Bridgeton,
N.J./Cumberland Regional), sophomore Kevin Tallon
(Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and sophomore
Chris Doyle (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) finished
with a time of 1:46.49.
Freshman Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown Area)
was the top finisher in the 1000-free, hitting the pad first at
10:29.57.
In the 200-free, junior Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher,
Pa./Upper Dublin) took first at 1:50.26, with sophomore
Chris Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep)
taking second at 1:51.95.
Freshman David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston
Latin School) won the 50-free with a time of 22.80, while
Quick won the 200-IM at 2:06.04.
Smith got his first top finish of the day in the 100-fly at 55.97,
with Yazbeck finishing second in the 100-free at 50.50.
Paine picked up his second top finish of the afternoon as he won
the 100-back at 56.23, followed by Tannenbaum’s top finish in
the 500-free at 5:04.59.
In the final relay, the Bears finished second in the 200-free with
a time of 1:30.96. The team was comprised of Paine, Yazbeck,
Tannenbaum and Doyle.
Ursinus goes to Arcadia on Saturday.
