Grenda Guides Men's Soccer by Neumann

Aston, Pa. – Marco Grenda continued his remarkable goal-scoring form with another brace as the Ursinus College men's soccer team picked up its third straight victory with a 3-1 decision at Neumann on Saturday.

The victory came just two days after a 5-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy for the Bears (3-1), who are on a three-game streak for the first time since 2013.

It was a sunny afternoon at Neumann, and soon after kickoff the Bears found themselves in a close match with each team battling for opportunities on their respective attacks.

The Knights struck first in the 23rd minute when Chris Siemien slid a shot past Ursinus keeper Tyler Lewin on an assist from Jon Yinger. Although Neumann got on the board first, Ursinus continued to produce opportunities.

The Bears tied it in the 36th minute when Grenda added another chapter to what was already a fantastic start to the season, scoring on a beautiful assist from Harry Lorenc. It was the first time the sophomore entered the assist column in his collegiate career.

With just 43 seconds left on the clock in the first half, the Bears jumped ahead 2-1 thanks to the work of senior Jerry Bardol, who netted his second marker of the year. At the break, Ursinus was leading Neumann in shots, 10-2, and shots on goal, 4-1.

The Bears coasted to the finish line after they extended their lead to 3-1 thanks another Grenda goal less than five minutes into the second half. The junior now has six goals on the season, the most in the Centennial Conference. He has found the back of the net in all four matches.

The men's soccer will see action again next Wednesday at home vs Penn State Abington.
