Late goal helps Men's Soccer tie Misericordia 2-2

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus senior midfielder Dean DerSimonian (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) scored the game-tying goal with just 2:25 left in regulation, as the Bears (0-1-1) tied Misericordia (1-0-1) 2-2 in men's soccer play on Saturday at Patterson Field.

DerSimonian scored his goal on a great pass from senior forward Ryan Butler (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra) in the 88th minute as the Bears pushed the ball into the box quickly.

The late goal was the lone goal in the second half, as both teams scored their goals in the first ten minutes of the game.

Ursinus took an early 1-0 lead when junior midfielder Ryan Molyneaux (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored on a rocket from the 20-yard line at 3:39.

Misericordia tied the score 51 seconds later when sophomore forward Niko Amity scored off of a save by Ursinus junior goalkeeper Vince Maiorino (Mount Laurel, N.J./Bishop Eustace). The Cougars then took a 2-1 lead when sophomore midfielder Barry Kabinoff scored his third goal of the year on a header at 8:32. Junior back Dante Ippolito had the assist.

In the overtime periods, Ursinus held an 8-2 edge on shots, but, could not get one across.

Maiorino had ten saves for Ursinus, while senior P.J. Steiner made five saves for Misericordia.

Ursinus begins a lengthy road trip tomorrow, as the Bears travel to Susquehanna.
