Men's Lacrosse tunes up for playoffs with win over McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ursinus got four goals from senior midfielder Jake Weber (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) as the 12th-ranked Bears finished off their Centennial Conference schedule with a 12-7 win over McDaniel (7-7, 4-4 Centennial) on Saturday afternoon at Gill Stadium.

Ursinus, who had clinched the second seed on Wednesday, will host Dickinson on Wednesday in the semifinals. The Red Devils clinched the third seed with a win over F&M and Washington loss to Gettysburg.

As for Saturday's game, Ursinus also got two goals from senior attack Mark Stratton (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) and senior midfielder Ian Moore (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) while freshman midfielder Gerard Brown (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) had a goal and three assists.

Ursinus took an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter when junior attack Logan Panaccione (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) scored on an assist by Brown.

After McDaniel tied the score, the Bears got goals from Moore and Weber to take a 3-1 lead. The Bears would outscore the Green Terror 5-1 during that stretch ending up with a 6-2 lead with 7:58 left in the second quarter.

McDaniel would eventually fight its way back to within two at 8-6 with 7:32 left, but, Ursinus scored four of the next five goals to take the win.

Individually, junior James Fairchild (Wayne, Pa./Malvern Prep) went 11-for-23 on faceoffs, but, had four ground balls while junior long stick midfielder Patrick O'Donoghue (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) had three.

In goal, junior Brian Neff (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) had 11 saves.
