CHESTER, Pa. – Three goals by senior midfielder Jake Weber (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township), along with three assists from senior attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), were more than enough for Ursinus as the Bears (2-0) defeated Widener (0-3) 4-2 in men's lacrosse play from a foggy Quick Stadium on Wednesday.

The Bears held an opponent to two goals for the second straight game, and scooped up 37 ground balls in the win.

After a scoreless first quarter, Ursinus got on the board as junior long stick midfielder Anthony Torello (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) scored on an assist from Smyrl at 14:42. Chris Sanchez then scored for the Pride to tie the score at 1-all less than one minute later.

Weber would then score on a Smyrl assist at 8:44, followed by an unassisted goal at 4:25 for a 3-1 halftime lead.

Weber's third goal of the game came at 6:54 in the third on an assist by Smyrl for a 4-1 lead. Widener would score the final goal of the game at 6:44 as Vince Marra cut the Ursinus lead to 4-2.

Individually, junior goalkeeper Brian Neff (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) had seven saves as he faced 20 shots. Senior defender Ryan Ridinger (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while senior attack Mark Stratton (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) scooped up six ground balls.

Junior faceoff specialist James Fairchild (Wayne, Pa./Malvern Prep) was 7-for-10 on faceoffs for Ursinus, who will host Kenyon on Saturday in their home opener.
