Men's Lacrosse snaps skid with big win over York (Pa.), 10-9

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus got five goals and one assist from sophomore attack Mike Neal (Shelby Township, Mich./De La Salle) as the Bears (6-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 10-9 nailbiting win over York (Pa.) (9-3) on Wednesday night in men's lacrosse play.

The Spartans came in ranked 18th in Division III and marked the Bears second win against a top 20 program, and first since 2007.

Neal scored four of his goals in the second half, including one with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter that gave Ursinus a 9-8 lead. Sophomore attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) scored two goals in the win.

Ursinus rallied from a three-goal deficit in the third quarter with three straight goals including two from Neal. His second one with 3:29 left tied the score at 6-all. After York took a quick 7-6 lead, Ursinus scored two goals with freshman attack Logan Panaccione (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) scoring with four seconds left in the third to tie the score, followed by Neal's fourth goal of the game at 14:44 left in the game to make the score 8-7.

Sophomore midfielder Jake Weber (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) would score with 2:48 left in the game which turned out to be the game-winner.

The Spartans got three goals and two assists from Andrew Gamble.

Junior face off specialist Shawn Caven (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was 8-for-13 on faceoffs on the evening, while sophomore defender Cody Lefevre (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) had three caused turnovers. Smyrl picked up five ground balls.

In goal, freshman goalkeeper Brian Neff (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) made 18 saves.

Ursinus takes the week off, then faces their third straight ranked team when they take on Washington College on Wednesday.
