Gettysburg rallies to defeat MLax, 7-5

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Gettysburg rallied for three goals in the final quarter as the Bullets (7-5, 3-2 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (8-3, 3-2 Centennial) 7-5 on Saturday afternoon in men's lacrosse play.

The Bullets got two goals in the quarter from J.C. Ward, who scored the game-winning goal with 3:24 left in the final period as Bullets remained unbeaten against the Bears in the nine-year series.

Ward was one of six players who scored for the Bullets, as Henry Tesar added a goal and an assist.

For Ursinus, the Bears got two goals from junior midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas), while sophomore attack Taylor Allen (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Bluepoint) had a goal and an assist.

Ursinus enjoyed a two-goal advantage in the first half, as goals from Ocampo and one from freshman midfielder Jim Stanley (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) with 9:20 left in the second gave Ursinus a 2-0 lead. Gettysburg fired back to tie the score at 2-all with goals from Pat Sartory and Martin Manilla. Manilla's goal with 5:57 left tied the score.

Ursinus took a 3-2 lead into the locker room as freshman attack Jordan Demcher (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco)) scored with 2:09 left in the second.

Ocampo's second goal of the game, and 31st of the season, came 1:11 into the second half giving Ursinus a 4-2 lead. After Gettysburg scored two goals to tie the game, Allen scored his lone goal on an extra-man opportunity with 8:26 left on an assist by sophomore attack Brian Weil (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) for a 5-4 lead.

Tesar added an insurance goal with 54 seconds left for the Bullets.

Both goalkeepers were outstanding in the game, as J.T. McCook made 14 saves for Gettysburg, while sophomore goalkeeper Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made 13 saves for Ursinus.

Individually, Ursinus got six ground balls and two caused turnovers from senior long stick midfielder tom Adelsberger (Sea Isle City, N.J./St. Augustine). Senior long stick midfielder Ernie Constantine (Bethpage, N.Y./St. Dominic) had two caused turnovers for Ursinus.
