MLax holds off Eastern, 7-6

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus had to survive a late Eastern rally, as the Bears (4-1) held off the Eagles (1-2) 7-6 in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Eastern, trailing 7-3 with 12 minutes to go, scored three straight goals including two over the last 1:18 of the game but could not tie the score.

For Ursinus, the Bears were led by junior attack Andrew Bean (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) and junior midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas) who each had two goals in the win.

Eastern got three goals from sophomore attack Chris Farrar, while sophomore attack Zack Ivy had a goal and an assist.

Early on, it was all Ursinus as the Bears opened the game with a 4-0 run. Ocampo capped the run with a goal at 13:17 for a 4-0 lead. Eastern's lone goal came at 10:48 on an extra man goal by Farrar.

The two teams would then trade goals in the second half, before Ursinus took a 7-3 lead at 12:08 on a goal by senior long stick midfielder Tom Adelsberger (Sea Isle City, N.J./St. Augustine).

Farrar had two goals for Eastern during the fourth quarter rally, including a goal with 33 seconds left on an assist by sophomore attack Will Johnson.

For Ursinus, sophomore goalkeeper Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) had ten saves, with Eastern goalkeeper sophomore Aaron Benz making eight.

Ocampo, Adelsberger and senior defender Logan Duffie (Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest) each had six ground balls, with freshman faceoff specialist Shawn Caven (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) going 9-for-13 on faceoffs. Junior midfielder Mike Alfieri (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) had three caused turnovers for Ursinus, who will travel to Swarthmore next Saturday.
