Men's Lacrosse moves to 3-0 with win over Messiah

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus moved to 3-0 on the 2011 season on Saturday with a 7-5 victory over Messiah in non-conference men's lacrosse action.

The Bears went on a 3-0 scoring run to start the second half and had a four goal lead with ten minutes remaining.

Junior midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla.) and senior midfielder Pat Gillen (Merrick, N.Y.) each had two goals on the day, with Ocampo pushing across two assists as the Bears racked up 43 shots.

Sophomore attack Brian Weil (Middletown, N.J.), junior midfielder Mike Bloom (West Islip, N.Y.) and junior attack Andrew Bean (Tampa, Fla.) also had goals on the day for the Bears.

Messiah (0-2) got a goal and two assists from Kevan Schellenburg.

After ending the first quarter tied at 1-all, Gillen scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter (7:14 and 1:56) to give Ursinus a 3-1 lead. His second goal came on a pass from senior defender Logan Duffie (Glen Mills, Pa.) who cleared the ball from midfield right to Gillen.

Leading 3-2 at half, Ursinus got two straight goals from Ocampo at 6:16 and 4:54 to take a 5-2 lead, followed by Bean's goal at 2:30 on an Ocampo assist for a 6-2 lead.

Ursinus forced 21 Falcon turnovers, as 12 different players recorded caused turnovers. Defensively, sophomore defender

Buddy Ferro (Clifton Heights, Pa.) had seven ground balls, with sophomore attack Brian Weil (Middletown, N.J.) netting five.

Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J.) had nine saves in the win.

Ursinus heads south to take on fifth-ranked Roanoke College on Wednesday afternoon at 2.
