COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Three different Ursinus players scored two
goals each as the Bears (1-0) defeated Marymount (Va.) (1-2) 11-8
on Wednesday afternoon in men's lacrosse play. It was the season
opener for Ursinus.
Senior midfielder Eric Farris (Pottsgrove,
Pa./Pottsgrove), sophomore attack Dan Monzo
(Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford), sophomore attack
David Kraus (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and
sophomore midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast,
Fla./Mantanzas) each had two goals in the win. Ursinus
rattled off 33 shots, while forcing 22 Saint turnovers.
Senior attack Pat Nagle (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward
Melville) had two assists for the Bears.
For Marymount, sophomore midfielder Drew Phillips had three goals,
while junior attack Chris Wascak had two goals and an assist.
Ursinus scored three times in the first three quarters to build a
9-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Bears would go up
11-5 with 9:35 left, before the Saints put together a small rally
with three straight goals to end the game.
Freshman goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./Saint
Mark's) recorded 13 saves in his first collegiate game. He
also had a team-high seven groundballs, while junior long stick
midfielder Ernie Constantine (Bethpage, N.Y./St.
Dominic) had five. Junior defender Tom Adelsberger
(Sea Isle City, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) along with
Constantine had three caused turnovers.
For the Saints, sophomore goalkeeper Ross Fernandez had 13 saves,
while sophomore midfielder Joe Rafferty had a game-high ten
groundballs. Rafferty also won 17-of-22 faceoffs on the day.
Ursinus heads to Messiah on Saturday.
