Men's Golf Makes Strides at Spartan Invitational

MT. WOLF, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team showed significant improvement on the second and final day of the Spartan Invitational, shaving 16 strokes off its first-round tally to land in 12th in the overall team standings.

All five Bears knocked at least two shots off their Saturday total as Ursinus finished with a 327 at Royal Manchester Golf Links. Kyle Quagliero carded a 75 to finish in a tie for ninth place overall with a 36-hole 152 (77-75).

Other than one triple bogey and a double, Quagliero was brilliant on the last day of the season-opening tournament. He finished with four birdies – the par-4 7th hole, the par-5 9th, the par-5 16th, and the par-4 18th – and added 10 pars to his line to crack the top-10 in a field of 80 golfers. Quagliero shot even-par 36 on the back nine.

Jordan Pick shot 80 to conclude his collegiate debut in a tie for 47th place (84-80—164). Pick posted a 38 on the front nine, including a birdie on the 9th hole, and added a second consecutive birdie on the par-4 10th.

Ryan Hodgdon trimmed four strokes off his Saturday score to finish with an 81, making birdie on the par-5 3rd as well as the 7th and 16th.

Daniel Schlitt made the biggest improvement during Sunday's second round, registering a 91 after a first-round 99. Schlitt produced back-to-back birdies on the par-3 6th hole and the 7th hole and had four pars on the back nine.

Jack Bagnell capped his tournament with a 94 (97-94—191).

The Bears host their annual fall invitational on Tuesday, September 17.
