Schwartz Shoots Career Low in Round 2

MACUNGIE, Pa. – Max Schwartz played the best round of his career to lead the Ursinus College men's golf team's second-round performance at the Centennial Conference championship on Saturday.

Schwartz shot a career-best 79 for the Bears, who remained in seventh place with a two-day score of 683 at Brookside Country Club.

Franklin & Marshall held onto its lead in the team standings. The Diplomats' 581 is 13 strokes clear of McDaniel (594), with Gettysburg (603) in third, Swarthmore (609) in fourth, Muhlenberg (612) in fifth, and Dickinson (618) in sixth.

Round 1 leader Ben Mitchell of F&M extended his advantage and will go into Sunday's final round with a six-stroke head start on teammate Justin Lankler. Mitchell shot a 1-over 72 and is 3-under through 36 holes.

Schwartz scored 41 on the front nine and was locked in on the back, posting birdie on the par-4 10th hole and par-5 13th. He had three pars in that span and completed holes 10-18 in 38 strokes, just three over par, to break 80 for the first time. Schwartz is the Bears' leader, sitting in 29th place after two rounds.

Sophomore Brian Barrett carded an 85 on Day 2; he had eight pars, including a streak of five in a row from holes 3-7.

Sophomore Ryan Hodgdon and senior Ryan Crawford each shot 90 on Saturday, and senior Matthew Sherman finished at 92. Sherman birdied the par-4 14th hole, while Crawford had seven pars and Hodgdon five.

The Bears conclude their season with the third and final round of play at the conference championship on Sunday.
