ELKTON, Md. – Ryan Crawford's first career individual title made a winner out of the Ursinus College men's golf team at the annual spring edition of the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
Crawford signed for a two-day tally of 166 (84-82) at Patriots Glen National Golf Club, edging sophomore teammate Brian Barrett and Swarthmore's Max Katz-Balmes for his landmark medalist honor.
The Bears ran away with the team crown in a small contingent after the original tournament date was postponed due to unfavorable conditions in recent weeks. Ursinus scored a two-day 691 (343-348) to defeat Neumann (728) and Widener (802). Swarthmore brought its 'B' squad, all of whom played as individuals.
Crawford, a senior and three-year captain, found himself tied with Katz-Balmes atop a crowded leaderboard with an 84 at the conclusion of the first round, but his 82 on Sunday was tied with Barrett and Swarthmore's Hunter Hughes for the best of the day and more than enough to secure his milestone win.
Barrett carded an 88 on the first day and came back with an 82 on Sunday, putting him one shot clear of the Garnet's Adam Agustin for runner-up honors.
Sophomore Ryan Hodgdon (85-92—177) and senior Max Schwartz (86-92—178) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in a field of 20 golfers.
Senior Matthew Sherman shot a two-day 194, with his 93 on Saturday marking his second-best round of the season.
The men's golf team hosts the annual Ursinus Invitational at Stonewall on Tuesday.
