Men's Golf Places Third at Fall Invite

POTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team put together one of its best performances in several years in a third-place showing at its annual fall invitational on Tuesday.

Four Bears landed in the top-14 and ties as the home squad posted a score of 317 to tie its output at last year's fall invitational and match its second-lowest mark of the last three seasons.

Ursinus nearly came away with the team trophy to boot, but was edged out narrowly by Cabrini (313) and Chestnut Hill (316) on a gorgeous day at Raven's Claw Golf Club.

Sophomore Ryan Hodgdon signed for a 76, the second-lowest score of his career, to pace the Bears and finish sixth in a 47-man field. Hodgdon had 12 pars and a birdie on the par-5 7th hole and carded a 36 on the front nine in his first career top-10 effort.

Sophomore Brian Barrett turned in the best round of his young career, tallying a 79 to tie for eighth overall in his own first career top-10. Barrett had a birdie on the par-4 4th hole and registered nine pars on the afternoon.

Junior Noah Steiner and senior Ryan Crawford each shot 81 to tie for 14th overall. Steiner logged birdies on the par-5 7th and par-5 10th holes, recording a 37 on the back nine, while Crawford made birdie on the 4th hole.

Senior Matthew Sherman carded a career-best 89 as an individual, posting birdie on the par-4 18th, and sophomore Jack Bagnell fired a 90 that included a birdie on the par-4 12th.

The men's golf team continues its fall season at the Muhlenberg Invitational on Monday, October 2.
