Men's Golf Finishes 7th at CC Championship

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team wrapped up the 2015-16 season by finishing seventh at the Centennial Conference championship.

The Bears shot a 331 in Sunday's third and final round, their lowest at the conference tournament in two years. They finished with a team total of 1012, 15 strokes back of sixth-place Dickinson.

Franklin & Marshall set a record with its third consecutive conference title, scoring 910 over the three-day event at The Bridges Golf Club. The Diplomats edged out Gettysburg (914) by four strokes and McDaniel (915) by five. Swarthmore (924) was fourth, followed by Muhlenberg (931), Dickinson, and Ursinus.

McDaniel's Brian Norwitz birdied the third hole of a playoff to capture the individual title.

Sophomore Lamar Saxon led the Bears with an 80 on Sunday, giving him a team-best 246 (78-88-80) for the tournament; that was good for 25th overall. Saxon birdied the par-4 2nd, the par-5 15th, and the par-4 16th and shot a 38 (+2) on the front nine.

Ursinus' scoring was balanced in Round 3, with all five of its golfers carding between 80 and 86. Behind Saxon came sophomore Ryan Crawford, who posted 11 pars to finish with an 82. Freshman Bennett Collis had pars on half of his 18 holes and recorded an 83, wrapping up a consistent championship effort that left him with a 251 (83-85-83); Crawford was the Bears' third-leading scorer with a 253 (84-87-82).

Senior Matthew Holmes shot an 84 with a birdie on the 2nd hole, giving him a three-day total of 262 (91-85-86), and junior Anthony Barbine finished with an 86 for a 272 (96-90-86), shaving at least four strokes off his previous round on Saturday and Sunday. Barbine had four pars and no double-bogeys for the day.
