Men's Golf Battles Elements at E-Town Invitational

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team contended with 20 other teams in addition to the cold and the rain in the Elizabethtown Invitational held at the Hershey Country Club's East Course, ultimately placing 18th with a team tally of 352.

Eastern claimed the team crown with a score of 308, edging out Stevenson (313) and Muhlenberg (316) behind an individual title from Ryan Torresin, who fired a 1-over 72 and won a tiebreaker over Alvernia's Brett Fernandes. Eastern's Matt Cocorikis was third, just a stroke behind the leaders.

Two other Centennial Conference squads took to the links, with Dickinson (326) nudging past Gettysburg (327) by a single stroke to finish ninth.

Sophomore Lamar Saxon led the Bear contingent with an 80, placing him in a tie for 22nd in a large field that featured 107 golfers. Saxon turned in a strong round, logging nine pars in addition to a birdie on the par-5 1st and an eagle on the par-5 14th.

Sophomore Ryan Crawford (84) and senior Matthew Holmes (85) were separated by one stroke; Crawford registered eight pars and joined Saxon with a birdie on the 1st hole, while Homes had five pars and also eagled the 14th hole, a 424-yard par five.

Freshmen Bennett Collins (103) and Noah Steiner (114) rounded out the Ursinus scoring, the former recording a pair of pars and the latter notching one of his own on the 6207-yard course.

The Bears are scheduled to compete in the Rosemont Invitational at Honeybrook Golf Club this weekend.
