BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus College men's basketball team (8-7, 3-5 CC) fell to No. 15 Johns Hopkins (13-2, 7-1 CC), 92-62, on Saturday. The Bears trailed by 10 going into the half, but were outscored 52-32 in the second in the loss.
Ursinus shot 43.9% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc against the Centennial Conference's top defense that has allowed just 64.5 points per game in conference action. The 30-point differential also marks the most in a loss this season.
The Bears went up early with threes from Jimmy Kpadeh and Ryan Hughes to take an 8-2 lead. Ursinus lead 17-14 with 10:07 remaining after another trey from Kpadeh before Hopkins answered with a three of its own to tie. The Blue Jays would take their first lead of the game with another make from beyond the arc to go up 23-20.
Ursinus re-took the lead after Lucas Olshevski found netting on a lay-up and then followed it up with a make from beyond the arc to put the Bears up 30-25. The Blue Jays matched with their largest run of the game to close out the half on a 13 straight points as the Bears went into the half trailing, 38-30.
The Blue Jays continued their run into the second half eight straight points to cap off what would end up as a 21-0 run. George Gordon finally ended the 6:27 scoreless run with a jumper. Hopkins extended its lead to 20 with 16:45 to play before closing out the game 92-62.
Ryan McTamney ended as the lone double-digit scorer for the Bears with 25 points.
