Hughes Hauls in Weekly Award

LANCASTER, Pa. – On the heels of another monster game and a buzzer-beater to boot, Ursinus College men's basketball sophomore Ryan Hughes earned player of the week honors from the Centennial Conference.

Hughes turned in another masterful performance at Rosemont on Thursday, pouring in a game-high 25 points and banking a 35-footer at the buzzer to hand the Bears a dramatic 80-78 victory. The incredible game-winner was a fitting finish to a prolific night for Hughes, who shot 8-for-11 from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. He was 5-for-6 from 3-point range and added four assists and two steals to his line.

Thursday marked the third game with at least 25 points for Hughes, who is establishing himself as an early player of the year candidate. Hughes leads the conference in points per game (18.4), total field goals (32), and defensive rebounds (60) while ranking second in 3-pointers (11), third in 3-point percentage (64.7) and rebounds per game (8.2), sixth in steals (8) and field-goal percentage (60.4), and ninth in assists (13).

Hughes is the second straight Bear to collect player of the week laurels after Ryan McTamney did so last week.

After going 4-1 to begin the season, Ursinus opens Centennial Conference play at Haverford on Tuesday night.
