Men's Basketball Receives Sportsmanship Award

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's basketball team was recently honored with the Schoenfeld Sportsmanship Award from the College Basketball Officials Association (CBOA).

Schoenfeld, a former basketball great who possessed impeccable honesty and a charismatic personality, was one of the founders of the CBOA. After an illness took his lifer in 1956, the organization decided to memorialize Schoenfeld through an award presented annually to a person or team who exemplified the principles and characteristics he displayed. The honor is bestowed upon the college or university that, in the judgment of the CBOA, best exemplifies "the highest degree of sportsmanship, character, and ethics among their players, coaches, and spectators."

This marks the second time the Bears have garnered the award, the highest honor the CBOA bestows upon an institution. Ursinus was also the recipient of the Schoenfeld award in 2006.
