Williams Named CC Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – Shooting the Ursinus College men's basketball team to a signature victory over a top-10 opponent was enough to stamp Eric Williams Jr. as the Centennial Conference's player of the week.

Williams was unstoppable in Saturday's 94-88 victory over 10th-ranked Swarthmore, pouring in 30 points on just 11 shots to power the Bears to their first win over the Garnet in 10 tries. The senior marksman was 8-for-11 from the field and 5-for-8 from 3-point range, keeping Ursinus close with 16 first-half points before helping the hosts seal the deal with a bevy of critical plays in the second stanza.

Williams was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line to headline a remarkable foul-shooting effort by the Bears, who went 33-of-37 to keep Swarthmore at arm's length and give Ursinus just the third victory over a top-10 team in program history.

On Wednesday, Williams finished 5-for-9 from the floor for 12 points in a 91-60 rout of Gettysburg. He was a sizzling 13-of-20 (65.0 percent) for the week and made 6 of his 11 attempts from long range.

In the midst of a sensational senior season, Williams crossed the 1,200-point mark for his career in Saturday's thrilling triumph. He leads the conference and ranks 18th in Division III in 3-point percentage (47.6) and is tied for ninth in the nation with 59 made triples. Williams is second in the CC in scoring at 17.5 points per game.

Currently tied for second in the conference standings, Ursinus opens a three-game road swing at Muhlenberg on Thursday.
