Men's Basketball wins overtime thriller over Swarthmore, 82-79

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus got 20 points from junior point guard Jesse Krasna (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) as the Bears (3-3, 2-1 Centennial) held off a tough Swarthmore (0-6, 0-3 Centennial) 82-79 in overtime Saturday afternoon in men's basketball action.

Senior forward Kevin Janowski (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) scored 17, while senior forward Jon Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and junior guard Pat Vasturia (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace) each scored nine.

Freshman guard Malik Draper (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) scored nine, but, grabbed a team-high ten rebounds.

Swarthmore was led by junior guard Jay Kober who scored a game-high 23 points, with sophomore guard Karl Barkley scoring 16. Swarthmore sank 13 three-pointers in the loss.

The Garnet led at intermission 33-29 and led most of the way through the second half until Ursinus freshman guard Mark Wonderling (Lederach, Pa./Souderton Area) made a jump shot with 5:35 left in regulation for a 60-59 Ursinus lead.

Trailing 67-66, Krasna made a driving layup with nine seconds left and coverted a foul shot to give Ursinus a 69-67 lread. Kober would make a layup with one second left to force the extra period.

In the overtime, Ursinus took its largest lead of the game to date with 1:11 left as Janowski made a three-pointer for a 76-71 lead. From there, Ursinus make 6-of-8 foul shots to hold off the Garnet. As a team, Ursinus was 23-for-26 from the foul line in the win. Ward was 6-for-6, while Krasna was 7-for-7.

Krasna also had five assists and five steals in the win.

Ursinus will host Moravian on Monday.
