ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Playing without freshman forward Jon
Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Ursinus got a total team
effort as the Bears (10-6, 6-3 Centennial) closed the first half of
their conference schedule with an 82-63 win over Muhlenberg (8-7,
6-3 Centennial) Wednesday night at Memorial Hall in men's
basketball play.
For Ursinus, freshman forward Kevin Janowski (New Egypt,
N.J./New Egypt) scored a team-high 22 points. He was one
of four players to score in double figures, with senior guard
Remy Cousart (Philadelphia, Pa./Holy Ghost)
scoring 17 points, dishing out 12 assists and grabbing five
rebounds. His fifth rebound of the night, coming with 8:41 left in
the second half, was number 700 for his career.
For Muhlenberg, sophomore forward Spencer Liddic had a team-high 20
points while senior guard/forward Ryan Foster added in 19.
Ursinus also got 13 points from freshman guard Matt Donahue
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity School) and 12 points from
junior guard Matt Hilton (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown
Area).
In Ward absence, junior forward T.J. Jones (Verona,
N.J./Verona) had nine points and six rebounds in 24
minutes of play.
Ursinus finished the game shooting 50.8 percent (32-for-63) from
the field.
Muhlenberg took an early lead, going up by five at 11-6 on a layup
by Liddic. Ursinus would answer back, regaining the lead at 18-17
on a layup by Hilton with 10:40 left.
With the score 20-19 in favor of Ursinus, the Bears went on a short
6-0 scoring burst as Cousart had a three-point play and Janowski
connected on a three-pointer putting the Bears up 26-19.
Muhlenberg would tie the score twice, the last on a layup by Liddic
with 3:46 left at 33-all. From there, Ursinus went on an 11-4
scoring run capped by a Cousart layup with one minute remaining for
a 44-37 lead.
In the second half, Ursinus would lead the entire way. Muhlenberg
got to within one at 56-55 with 14:55 left on a layup by Liddic.
From there, Ursinus would outscore Muhlenberg over the next 6:18
13-3 and would maintain a double-digit lead.
Muhlenberg held a 36-33 lead on the glass, with Liddic grabbing a
game-high nine.
