CLINTON, N.Y. – Host Hamilton held on Saturday afternoon
and captured its fifth straight Tip-Off tournament championship,
nipping Ursinus (1-1) 79-78 in the title game.
Ursinus got 26 points from junior guard Matt Hilton
(Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) and 21 points from senior
guard Remy Cousart (Philadelphia, Pa./Holy Ghost
Prep). Both were named to the all-tournament team.
With Ursinus trailing by four (79-75) with one second left, Hilton
was fouled on a three-point attempt. Hilton converted the first two
to pull Ursinus to within two. On his third attempt, he tried to
miss intentionally, but, the shot went in.
Tied 40-all at the half, Ursinus jumped out to a five-point lead
at 50-45 with 15:49 to go on a three-pointer by freshman guard
Matt Donahue (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity School).
The two teams traded the lead, with Ursinus grabbing its last lead
with 2:18 left at 73-72 on a layup by Cousart.
In the first half, Ursinus went up by as much as seven points at
40-33 on a pair of foul shots by freshman forward John Ward
(Allentown, Pa./Parkland).
Donahue finished with nine points, while Ward and senior guard
Keith Page (Manchester, England/Blair Academy)
chipped in with eight.
Freshman forward Kevin Janowski (New Egypt, N.J./New
Egypt) had a team-high nine rebounds, as did Cousart.
