Brubaker Garners All-America Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Heather Brubaker took took home All-America honors in the all-around competition to represent the Ursinus College gymnastics team on the first day of the NCGA championships at Springfield College.

Brubaker placed seventh with an overall score of 37.450, becoming an All-American for the first time. She was joined by classmate Alexandra Puryear, who capped her standout career by placing 10th at 35.100.

Brubaker notched at least a 9.500 on three of the four events to match her second-best comprehensive tally of the season. Her 9.550 on the beam was the best of her career, and good for the fifth-best result among the all-around competitors.

Brubaker garnered a 9.600 on the floor, attaining that number for the fifth time this season, and tied for third in the all-around with a score of 9.500 on the vault. She recorded an 8.800 on the uneven bars.

Puryear equaled her season high by grabbing a 9.650 on the floor exercise. She was awarded a 9.300 on the vault and an 8.900 on the beam to battle back from a 7.250 on the beam.

Brubaker will return to action Saturday for the individual competition, where she will join senior Amanda Palladino and sophomore Eleanor LaFountain. Palladino is set to contend for All-America honors on the bars and beam, while Brubaker will do so on the vault and LaFountain on the floor.
