Puryear Named All-Arounder of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – After helping Ursinus to its highest team score of the season, Alexandra Puryear has been named the East Region All-Around Gymnast of the Week by the National Gymnastics Coaches Association (NCGA).

Puryear was sensational in Saturday's quad meet at Rutgers, racking up 37.950 points to top her previous season high by more than a full point. The senior co-captain matched the highest score of the career on both the vault and the uneven bars and just missed it on the beam as the Bears tallied a 188.125 overall number.

Puryear's best performance came on the floor, where her 9.625 was just a quarter of a point off her season high set two weeks ago at Penn State.

Puryear equaled a personal best with a 9.550 on the vault, matching a career high she recorded twice a year ago. Her 9.450 on the uneven bars was also tied for a career best, and a 9.325 on the balance beam was her third-highest output of the year.

The first Bear to earn a weekly award from the NCGA this season, Puryear is the All-Around Gymnast of the Week for the second time in her career.

Puryear will be honored alongside Heather Brubaker, Kelly McLaughin, Amanda Palladino, and Kelsey Stewart as part of Senior Day festivities prior to Saturday's dual meet with Rhode Island College.
