Gymnastics Drops Dual at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Eleanor LaFountain continued her sensational season on the floor as the Ursinus College gymnastics team dropped a dual meet at West Chester on Monday night.

LaFountain matched her career best with a 9.775 on her floor routine on the way to her second first-place finish in the event in three outings for the Bears, who were outscored by a tally of 192.250-186.075.

LaFountain, who came in ranked in the top 10 in the nation on the floor, earned a 9.775 for the second straight meet; it was just enough to edge West Chester's Emily Loughery and Madison Brent at 9.750. LaFountain has garnered at least 9.75 points on the floor in each of her last three appearances.

As has been the case all season, the floor was the best rotation for Ursinus, which scored 47.600. Senior Heather Brubaker equaled her season best with a 9.675 for the second straight meet, enough to put her in a tie for fourth. Classmate Alexandra Puryear placed eighth with a 9.525, while freshman Alex Lacey earned a 9.400 in her collegiate debut and sophomore Breanna Couts netted a season-best 9.225.

Senior Kelly McLaughlin paced the Bears with a 9.550 on the balance beam, putting her in a tie for fourth overall. Junior Matisen O'Brien's 9.400 was good for seventh, and Puryear received a season-high 9.350 to place eighth. Puryear was followed by sophomores Skylar Haas (9.325) and Autumn Snape (9.275) as Ursinus tallied 46.900.

Brubaker landed in third place with a career-best 9.650 on the vault. Junior Lindsay Rush scored a season-high 9.425 to finish sixth, and Puryear totaled 9.275.

The uneven bars proved troublesome for Ursinus, which compiled just 44.875 points on the event, but freshman Abigail Schwerdt was a bright spot with a personal-best 9.325 that landed her in seventh.

Brubaker racked up an all-around score of 37.575, a new career high.

The gymnastics team heads to Penn for a quad meet with Bridgeport and Temple on Sunday, February
