Field Hockey Places Four on All-CC Team

LANCASTER, Pa. – Four Ursinus College field hockey players were named to the All-Centennial Conference team announced Tuesday by the league office.

Seniors Gemma Dufoe and Erin Saybolt joined juniors Devon Carroll and Addie Frey in representing the Bears on the all-conference roster. Dufoe and Carroll received first team recognition, while Frey and Saybolt were picked to the second team.

Dufoe picked up her first career All-CC certificate in her final season, matching Carroll for the team lead with 14 goals to rank second in the conference. Her 30 points are good for third in the CC, and her five game-winning goals place her in fourth. Dufoe found the back of the cage in each of the first eight games and wound up more than doubling her previous career high of six goals. She finished her career with 30 goals and six assists.

Carroll took another step forward after receiving all-conference honorable mention a year ago, becoming one of the conference's most dangerous offensive weapons. Armed with a powerful shot that made the Bears especially lethal on corners, the midfielder had four multi-goal performances and three game-winning goals, including a last-second marker at Bryn Mawr in the regular-season finale to clinch the No. 3 seed in the CC tournament. A three-year starter, Carroll's career totals stand at 24 goals and 11 assists.

Saybolt's decorated career concludes with a third All-CC laurel. The 2016 rookie of the year, who started every game since her debut, was third on the team with nine goals and five assists, running her overall tally to 31 goals and 15 assists. She played her best in some of the biggest games of the year, tallying a goal and an assist against No. 2 TCNJ and dishing out two helpers against eventual CC champion Johns Hopkins.

Frey was far from overwhelmed in her first season as the starting goalie. She ranked second in the conference in both saves (109) and save percentage (.796), posting the highest overall save total by a Bear since 2011. Frey registered six shutouts and six contests with double-digit stops.

Additionally, junior midfielder Kayla Paulson was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. Paulson started all 18 games, scoring her second career goal and adding three assists.

The Bears finished 11-7 overall and 7-3 in CC play, qualifying for the playoffs for the 17th consecutive season before falling to Franklin & Marshall in the semifinals.
