Field Hockey Cruises Past William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ursinus College field hockey team showed no signs of a letdown after a huge win over Messiah, dominating from start to finish en route to a 4-0 shutout at William Smith.

The Bears (2-1) had four different goal scorers on a day in which they outshot the hosts by a 27-4 margin and were never threatened. Devon Carroll, Erin Saybolt, Gemma Dufoe, and Kayla Paulson all found the back of the cage for Ursinus.

The Bears wasted little time putting their foot down, firing off three shots in the first four minutes before a penalty corner led to the opener. Gabriela Howell inserted for Anna Hall, who fed Carroll for a shot from the top of the circle that found its way into the cage with just over five minutes gone in the first frame.

Ursinus continued to hammer away at the Herons' defense, eventually breaking through again when Saybolt scored to double the advantage with 2:57 left in the first half.

Following a scoreless third, Dufoe and Paulson cashed in less than three minutes apart for the final margin.

Dufoe scored for the third consecutive game to open the season, ably following up a dynamic performance in which she tallied both goals in the 2-1 victory over Messiah.

Paulson's marker was her first since two years ago.

Addie Frey made three saves for her first career shutout between the pipes.

The Bears return home to take on Elizabethtown next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
