Singer Snares CC, National Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus College field hockey goalie Jules Singer was selected as the Centennial Conference defensive player of the week and received honorable mention for the NFHCA Division III defensive player of the week award.

The senior netminder was fantastic between the pipes in a 1-1 week for the Bears, allowing only one goal and stopping 12 of the 13 shots she faced.

Singer came up with 10 saves in a 1-0 loss at 4th-ranked TCNJ on Wednesday, helping Ursinus hold off the high-powered Lions until the last play of overtime. She was also the beneficiary of outstanding back-line play as senior Bridget Sherry had two defensive saves and junior Anna Hall added another.

Singer came back to post two saves in about 54 minutes of action in Saturday's 4-0 shutout of Dickinson. Sophomore Addie Frey made two saves of her own in the remainder of the second half.

A first-time weekly award winner, Singer ranks fourth in the conference in save percentage (.818) and goals-against average (0.91), both career highs. She has posted three shutouts to run her career total to 11.

The field hockey team continues CC play on Wednesday at Haverford.
