Field Hockey Shuts Down Dickinson

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College field hockey junior Erin Saybolt and sophomore Devon Carroll each scored two goals and added an assist apiece in a 4-0 Centennial Conference rout of Dickinson on Saturday afternoon.

The Centennial Conference-leading and nationally ranked No. 20 Bears (6-3, 4-0) were on the prowl for the most of the match. It took some time to score but once the Bears did, it was contagious as Ursinus cruised past the Red Devils (2-7, 1-3).

Ursinus took advantage of one of their several penalty corners to get out to a 1-0 lead as Saybolt blasted a low shot from just inside the circle past Meeder in the 23rd minute. Sophomore Gabriela Howell triggered the penalty corner insert to Saybolt.

The Bears increased their lead to 2-0 with less than 30 seconds left in the first half, when Carroll slapped in a tally off a rebound with the Red Devils down a player due to a green card.

Carroll picked up right where she left off from the first half. A few moments into the second half, Carroll registered her second goal after receiving a pass from Saybolt on a penalty corner. Carroll initially received the penalty corner then gave it to Saybolt before Saybolt played it back for Carroll's goal.

Just over 10 minutes later, Saybolt scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year courtesy of Carroll on yet another penalty corner.

Ursinus' control of the ball and stingy defense held the Red Devils without an official shot in the first 35 minutes of play and just five shots in the match. Senior keeper Jules Singer and sophomore Addie Frey combined for a shutout. Frey came on for 15 minutes of work. Each made two saves.

Dickinson generated a few chances in the second half. Hannah Grothusen sent a long blast, hitting the post from outside the circle in the second half. Also, Singer saved a deflected cross heading for the top left corner of the net.

Meeder made a sprawling save on junior Anna Hall's penalty corner shot in the 16th minute to keep the Bears off the board. Meeder posted three saves.

Ursinus takes on Haverford on the road Wednesday at 7 p.m.
