Overly, Sherry Named All-Region

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Ursinus College field hockey team's Brooke Overly and Bridget Sherry accrued all-region honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), the organization announced Wednesday.

Overly, a senior, and Sherry, a junior, were each named to the South Region first team. The two served as co-captains for the Bears during the 2017 campaign.

Overly is an all-region selection for the first time following a final season in which she also earned a first team nod on the All-Centennial Conference squad. Overly tied for second in the conference in goals (13) and third in points (30), leading Ursinus in both categories, and registered four game-winning goals on the year. She finished her career with 35 goals and 15 assists, tied for 23rd in program history in both, and stands 18th all-time at Ursinus with 85 points.

Sherry ascends to the first team after a pair of second team laurels in her first two seasons, becoming the sixth three-time all-region performer in school history. A first team all-conference honoree, Sherry anchored the Bears' defense with a pair of defensive saves and added four goals, all on penalty strokes, to bump her career total to eight.

The selections of Overly and Sherry give Ursinus multiple first team all-region players for the fifth straight year and 13th in the last 14. The duo will now await possible All-American recognition.
