Field Hockey blanks Dickinson, 5-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus got two goals from senior forward Samantha Macchio (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) as the Bears (13-3, 8-1 Centennial) defeated Dickinson (10-5, 6-3 Centennial) 5-0 Saturday morning in field hockey action.

The sixth-ranked Bears owned a 33-8 shot advantage and did not let the Red Devils have a shot in the second half of play.

Ursinus scored all four of its goals in a span of 10:50 in the first half. Senior forward Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) scored unassisted at 23:30, followed by Macchio's first goal at 26:26.

She would add her second goal at 29:23, followed by a goal from senior forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) at 34:25 on an assist by junior forward Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South).

In the second half, junior defender Colleen Leahy (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach)  scored unassisted at 50:40 for the final goal of the day.

Ursinus got two saves from senior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) while Dickinson goalie Emily Fuss had a game-high 14 saves in the loss.

The Bears step out of conference on Tuesday by heading to The Catholic University of America.
