COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Junior midfielder Megan Yoder
(Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and senior forward
Jessica Zatwarnicki (Reading, Pa./Exeter) each
scored two goals as third-ranked Ursinus (16-2, 10-0 Centennial)
defeated 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins (12-5, 7-3
Centennial) 8-3 on Saturday.
Ursinus, who had clinched the top seed in the upcoming Centennial
Conference tournament, outshot the Blue Jays 52-7 in the rout.
The Bears got on the board at 6:01 as Zatwarnicki scored unassisted
for a 1-0 lead. Hopkins tied the score at 1-all at 7:54 left when
Ariana Branchini scored on assists from Jenn Motylinski and
Brittany Bland.
Thren scored her first goal of the game at 23:46 on an assist from
junior midfielder BridgetResetco (West
Chester, Pa./Downingtown West), followed by a goal from
junior midfielder Michelle Wimmer (Palm, Pa./Upper
Perkiomen) on assists from Yoder and junior forward
Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) at
23:50 for a 3-1 lead.
Senior forward Jen Hooven (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster
Catholic) had her first goal of the game at 32:20 on an
assist by Resetco for a 4-1 lead at the half.
In the second half, Yoder scored her first goal of the game at
42:02 for a 5-1 lead. Hopkins got to within 5-2 at 47:19 as Lindsay
McKenna scored unassisted.
Ursinus then scored four straight goals to close the game, as Yoder
scored her second goal of the game at 50:50 for a 6-2 lead,
followed by a goal from Zatwarnicki on a Yoder assist at 54:20 for
a 7-2 lead.
Thren scored on an assist from at 55:21.
Senior goalkeeper Erica Scott (Carney's Point, N.J./St.
Elizabeth) had one save in 50 minutes, while junior
goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./George
School) had two saves in the final 20 minutes.
For Hopkins, Sophia Tieu had 13 saves in 50 minutes, with Kim Stein
having nine saves in 20 minutes.
