Complete 2018 All-CC Football Team
LANCASTER, Pa. – Ten members of the Ursinus College football team were recognized with All-Centennial Conference honors.
Sophomore running back Samuel Ragland headlined the Bears' first double-digit group of all-conference performers since 2011, consolidating his rookie of the year award from last season with a spot on the first team offense.
Senior tight end Thomas Cardozo and junior center James Marinelli were named second team offense, while senior nose tackle Charles Anderson, junior cornerback Mitchell Bradford, and junior safety Jack Spingler were voted second team defense.
Junior quarterback Thomas Garlick, freshman wide receiver Ryan Loughlin, and senior left tackle Brett Highland received honorable mention recognition on offense, and junior linebacker Jacob McCain garnered defensive honorable mention.
Bradford, Garlock, Loughlin, and McCain are all first-time All-CC selections.
Ragland has put his stamp on the Bears' offense this season, racking up 1,451 all-purpose yards and 14 rushing touchdowns to lead the CC in both categories. He ranks second in the league in rushing yards (751) and seventh in receiving yards (550). Ragland earned All-CC honorable mention last season.
Cardozo moves up a spot from honorable mention to the second team with another strong campaign. The senior is second among conference tight ends with 471 receiving yards and has hauled in three touchdowns. Cardozo recorded back-to-back games with over 100 yards in victories over McDaniel and Franklin & Marshall down the stretch.
Marinelli reprises his status as the second team all-conference man in the middle for an Ursinus offense that ranks second in the CC in yards per rush and rushing touchdowns as well as third in total offense, rushing yards per game, and passing yards per game. Highland, a first team All-CC honoree a year ago, was also a major factor in those gaudy numbers, providing blindside protection for Garlick.
Anderson was selected to the second team defensive line for the second straight season after compiling the best campaign of his career with 48 tackles, 4.5 sacks (second on the team), and a team-high 9 tackles for loss.
Bradford developed into a lockdown corner, topping the conference with five interceptions and also leading the Bears with six pass breakups in addition to a forced fumble. Spingler, a second team All-CC selection as a freshman, produced 40 tackles (3.5 for loss) and recovered a fumble.
Garlick has thrown for 2,407 yards on 177 completions this season to become the program's all-time record-holder in both categories. His 14 touchdowns are a career high, and the mobile signal-caller has added 269 yards and five touchdowns on the ground to go over 1,000 yards rushing for his career.
Loughlin immediately stepped in and became Garlick's favorite target on the outside, producing over 100 yards in each of his first two games – including a three-touchdown output in the opener at Bethany (W.V.). Loughlin is sixth in the CC with 634 receiving yards.
McCain grew into one of the conference's most prolific tacklers in the middle of the Bears' defense. The inside linebacker has piled up 108 stops this season, already tied for the most in a single campaign by an Ursinus player since 1995. Always around the ball, McCain has added two sacks, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, and an interception to his ledger.
In addition to the Bears' All-CC honorees, senior Kirk Cherneskie was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. A linebacker by trade, Cherneskie sacrificed that role to become the team's primary kicker and thrived down the stretch with four field goals in the last three games. Cherneskie, who is 31-of-36 on extra points, kicked the game-winning 38-yard field goal with one second left in the Bears' 27-24 victory at F&M.
