Garlick Tabbed CC Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – After leading one of the biggest wins in Ursinus College football history, Thomas Garlick has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Garlick scored on an 8-yard scramble with just 20.1 seconds left to give the Bears a 21-17 upset of No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Saturday, ending the Blue Jays' 45-game regular-season winning streak and 40-game conference streak. Ursinus became the first team to defeat Johns Hopkins in the regular season since Franklin & Marshall in 2012.

The sophomore quarterback, a weekly award winner for the first time, finished 11-of-22 for 247 yards and a touchdown through the air and added 104 yards and the winning score on the ground. It was the second time in Garlick's career that he rushed for 100 yards.

Garlick delivered a perfectly thrown deep ball to senior Carmen Fortino for a 67-yard touchdown on the second play from scrimmage, and shook off two fumbles to engineer a drive that will live on in program lore.

Garlick marched the Bears 74 yards in 13 plays, taking exactly five minutes off the clock. He kicked off the drive with an 11-yard run and delivered a 16-yard strike to junior tight end Thomas Cardozo on 3rd-and-15 to keep it alive before scampering in on third down with the pocket collapsing to send the Patterson Field crowd into hysterics.

Garlick, who surpassed 2,500 career passing yards in the victory, has thrown for 987 yards and six touchdowns to just two interceptions this season and has already registered 307 yards and three scores on the ground.
