Records fall as Football rallies past Dickinson, 47-31

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – It was a record setting day for two senior Ursinus College football players on Saturday, as the Bears rallied from a 24-7 deficit to take a 47-31 win over Dickinson Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.

Senior quarterback Kevin Monahan set a school record for passing yards in a game with 442 yards as he threw four touchdown passes and went 26-for-47. Senior wide receiver Darius Jones set a school record with 263 yards receiving on seven passes with two scores.

While senior running back Taylor Paul did not set a record, he did account for four touchdowns and finished with 136 yards on the ground and two rushing TDs, while catching seven passes for 79 yards with two touchdowns.

Ursinus trailed 24-7 with 51 seconds left in the first half, then proceeded to outscore the Red Devils (3-7, 3-6 Centennial) 40-7 over the next 30:51 en route to the win.

Dickinson was led by running back Cedric Madden who rushed for 270 yards on 34 carries with three scores. All three of his scores came in the first half, giving Dickinson as much as a 17-point lead.

Defensively, junior linebacker James Roccograndi had a team-high 11 tackles for Ursinus, while Pat Schlecker had eight tackles for the Red Devils.

The rally started on an Ursinus punt, when Dickinson muffed the return and Ursinus had the ball on the Red Devil 3-yard line with 18 seconds left. On the next play, Monahan found Paul for a 3-yard TD pass and the Bears trailed Dickinson 24-14 at intermission.

In the third quarter, Ursinus scored on its second drive when Paul completed a six-play, 38-yard drive with a four-yard TD run with 8:46 left and trailed 24-20.

Jones caught a 72-yard touchdown pass from Monahan on the Bears' next drive, giving Ursinus a 27-24 lead with 4:23 left in the third.

Dickinson took its last lead at 31-27 with 14:54 left in the fourth when quarterback Cole Ahnell threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Anders Overhaug.

From there, Ursinus scored its next touchdown on a Paul 1-yard run with 11:41 left for a  34-31 lead, then went up 40-31 with 5:42 left when freshman James Hickey scored on 4-yard run.

Ursinus' final touchdown came with 2:06 left when Monahan found Jones for a 84-yard run and a 47-31 lead.

Paul finished the day with 215 all-purpose yards for Ursinus, who finished with a winning record for the sixth-straight season under head coach Pete Gallagher.
